Today I chaperoned to Lego-land. I've been a chaperone with the kids' school to Lego-land before, and I have to say that today was much more enjoyable..I was with my kids. At least the dirty, grubby hands dipping into my apple fries and taking most of the vanilla whip cream with them were my one and only's.
When I went with the kids' school one year I was tasked with bringing 5 kids + 1 of my own...home safely. This was not any easy task, given that one was a runner. Trying to tackle her in "Medieval Village" while dragging 5 others behind me was not easy. After our fast-paced adventure, I was famished and indulged in some apple fries, only to have them ripped out of my hands, right after purchase, by the small, grubby hand of a 1st grader. At the end of the trip, a financially endowed and generous mom decided purchase her group "gifts" of legos for her entire group. The rest of us shot as many "looks" as we could in her direction.
So, today was a stellar day! My mother-in-law treated my kids and I and some cousins to a day of fun in Carlsbad. The weather was perfect..breezy, calm, enough sunlight to tan with. We enjoyed all of the fun rides such as the boats, the dragon ride, and the Knights Tournament.
I wanted to ride the #5 setting on the Knights Tournament, because I'd heard rumor that my husband had "chickened out." The #5 "Destiny" is supposed to be fast and furious. The carriage is suspended over water and turns the rider up, down, sideways, upside down, and over in quick, jolting movements. I convinced my nephew to ride it with me, arguing that every girl in school is going to be impressed with his courage. We took deep breaths and waited with anticipation as the platform was taken away.
It started dipping, turning, churning, and going upside down. I tried to open my eyes, but I started laughing...HARD, and couldn't stop! I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. I couldn't stop laughing to open my eyes; my nephew laughed along with me.
Afterwards, we gorged on dip n dots and for me, a cuppa coffee. Ahhh...the perfect day - laughter, family, coffee, and apple fries.
It's been a good day!
